KMITL Delegation’s Comprehensive Visit and Students SUmmer School to NCKU BME

A delegation of approximately 40 faculty members and students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Thailand, visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) from March 31 to April 9 for an academic exchange with NCKU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME).
Since establishing their partnership in 2019, both institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and actively promoted student exchange programs alongside a "3+2" Bachelor's-to-Master's dual-degree program (inbound via the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing, AISSM). This visit further deepens collaboration in biomedical engineering and reinforces joint efforts to cultivate talent with a global perspective.
To welcome the delegation, showcase the department's teaching and research strengths, and attract outstanding international students to pursue advanced studies in Taiwan, Professor Han-Sheng Chuang, Chair of NCKU BME, opened the event with welcoming remarks on the morning of March 31. Faculty members then presented their respective laboratory research specialties and directions. The vibrant academic discussions and engaging interactions highlighted the strong rapport between both universities.
For this visit, NCKU BME coordinated with multiple university units to provide interdisciplinary learning and industry-academia experiences:

Office of International Affairs (OIA): Introduced the NCKU campus environment, scholarship opportunities, and admissions guidelines.

Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM): Presented cross-disciplinary semiconductor technologies and dual-degree programs.

Center for Micro/Nano Science and Technology (Core Facilities Center): Offered hands-on experiences with a VR learning platform and micro/nano fabrication workshops.

Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC): Hosted facility tours and bilateral exchanges focused on Taiwan-Thailand smart healthcare technologies.
The itinerary also featured off-campus industry tours in the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP), including visits to the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) and United Orthopedic Corporation, offering practical insights into Taiwan's high-end medical device sector. Additionally, guided lab tours gave the visiting students direct exposure to cutting-edge research facilities—including VR learning platforms and micro/nano fabrication setups—demonstrating NCKU BME’s robust research and instructional infrastructure.
This visit lays a solid foundation for continuous international collaboration and talent cultivation, fostering technical exchange in biomedical engineering while opening new avenues for long-term partnership. Special appreciation is extended to Professor Wen-Tai Chiu of the BME Department (concurrently Associate Dean of Research and Development) for his leadership and meticulous planning, which ensured the visit’s great success.
